
Located in east China's Jiangsu Province, Nanjing Normal University (NNU) is one of China's key comprehensive universities and one of the birthplaces of China's higher education for teacher cultivation. It can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal College established in 1902 and Huiwen Academy in 1888. It took its present name in 1984.
Currently, with three campuses totaling an area of about 220,000 square meters, NNU is reputed as the most beautiful university in east China. One of its campuses is an important cultural heritage site under the state protection. There are 25 colleges and schools in the university that offer 146 doctorial programs, 216 master's degree programs and 80 bachelor's degree programs.
At present, the total number of students has exceeded 30,000, with over 16,000 full-time undergraduate students, over 6,900 graduate ones and 729 doctorial students. With 3 national key disciplines and 13 provincial key disciplines, NNU boasts a good number of a qualified faculty engaged in advanced teaching and research. There are 137 Ph.D. supervisors and 450 MA supervisors in the university.
NNU now has enrolled 1,200 international students from 123 countries who can enjoy Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institution Scholarship, scholarship provided by Jiangsu Provincial Government, and NNU Scholarship. The university has established academic links with 144 universities from 28 countries and recruited more than 100 foreign teachers.
